Weapon of Choice Gallery presents Dirty Laundry, an exhibition of recent artwork by Mick Hockney. His work is a response to a year of rolling news, from politics to climate change, from corporate stupidity to prejudice. Instead of hurling a brick at the TV, he aims his brush at a range of targets, attacking hubris with humour. He has developed a direct graphic style that makes use of hand cut stencils, flat colour and freehand painting. Mick airs his Dirty Laundry in public from 19th February at WOC.
Show runs until the 21st March 2010
Mick Hockney – Biography:
Mick was born in the Fens of Cambridgeshire. In his late teens he packed his paints and pencils and left to study at various art colleges across the land, eventually settling in London where he joined the creative bedlam that was Spitting Image. After several years he moved on and headed west to Bristol to work in the world of Animation. A few years ago he decided to concentrate on his own artwork using images and ideas to highlight an array of social issues from politics to the environment, leavened with a healthy dose of irony and a dash of gallows humour. After a hard day at the easel Mick enjoys nothing more than kicking back with his pipe and listening to his sublime collection of free jazz and Captain Beefheart records.
